When you create a room mailbox under Exchange 2010, by default the end-users will see just “Busy” under the calendar for the room.  This isn’t always useful and despite you setting “Do not remove subject” from the room mailbox settings under the Exchange GUI, the end user will still not see the subject.

To enable the standard users to view a room mailbox’s calendar entry’s subject if you have enabled that on the room mailbox properties, use the following command:

Add-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity ROOMNAME:\Calendar -User “USERNAME/GROUP” -AccessRights reviewer

To change permissions for a user or group use the SET-MAILBOXFOLDERPERMISSION cmdlet instead.

Available options are:

  • None   FolderVisible
  • Owner   CreateItems, ReadItems, CreateSubfolders, FolderOwner, FolderContact, FolderVisible, EditOwnedItems, EditAllItems, DeleteOwnedItems, DeleteAllItems
  • PublishingEditor   CreateItems, ReadItems, CreateSubfolders, FolderVisible, EditOwnedItems, EditAllItems, DeleteOwnedItems, DeleteAllItems
  • Editor   CreateItems, ReadItems, FolderVisible, EditOwnedItems, EditAllItems, DeleteOwnedItems, DeleteAllItems
  • PublishingAuthor   CreateItems, ReadItems, CreateSubfolders, FolderVisible, EditOwnedItems, DeleteOwnedItems
  • Author   CreateItems, ReadItems, FolderVisible, EditOwnedItems, DeleteOwnedItems
  • NonEditingAuthor   CreateItems, ReadItems, FolderVisible
  • Reviewer   ReadItems, FolderVisible
  • Contributor   CreateItems, FolderVisible

To bulk remove a mailbox permission you can perform the following with the confirm switch:

Remove-MailboxFolderPermission -Identity ROOMNAME:\Calendar -User “USERNAME/GROUP” -Confirm:$False
